About Our Products
Is your myrrh halal? expand_more
Yes. Our myrrh and frankincense are 100% pure natural resins — no additives, no alcohol, no animal products. They are completely permissible and have been used in Islamic tradition for centuries. Myrrh and frankincense have been burned in homes and during prayer across the Muslim world for thousands of years.
Where does your myrrh come from? expand_more
Our myrrh is wild-harvested in Somalia from Commiphora myrrha trees. We are a family business with direct roots in Somali harvesting communities — we source straight from the harvesters, with no middlemen. When a new harvest arrives, we know exactly which grove it came from.
Is it 100% pure? Are there any additives? expand_more
Absolutely 100% pure. No additives, no fillers, no synthetic fragrance, no binding agents. What you receive is exactly what comes off the tree — raw, wild-harvested resin tears. We would never sell anything we wouldn't burn in our own home.
What is the difference between myrrh and frankincense? expand_more
Both are natural tree resins but from different trees and with different scent profiles. Myrrh (from the Commiphora tree) has a deep, dark, balsamic warmth — earthy, smoky and rich. Frankincense (from the Boswellia tree) is brighter and more citrusy, with a clean, uplifting quality. They complement each other beautifully when burned together, which is why we include a free gram of frankincense powder with every order.
How long will my resin last? expand_more
Pure resin stored correctly will last for years — even decades. Keep it in the resealable kraft bag it arrives in, away from heat and moisture. A 25g bag used a few times a week will typically last several months. A little goes a very long way — we recommend starting with just 2–3 small pieces per burn.
Burning & Using Resin
Do I need charcoal to burn the resin? expand_more
Yes — resin needs a heat source to release its fragrance. Self-lighting charcoal discs are the most common method. You can find them at any halal shop, Middle Eastern grocery store or on Amazon. Light the disc, wait until it glows fully (3–5 minutes), then place 2–3 small pieces of resin on top. For a full step-by-step guide, visit our How to Use page.
Can I use the resin without charcoal? expand_more
You can use an electric incense burner or an oil diffuser with a heat plate as an alternative to charcoal. These are cleaner and easier to control, though the fragrance may be slightly less intense than traditional charcoal burning.
How much resin should I use per burn? expand_more
Start small — 2 to 3 pieces the size of a small pea is plenty for an average room. Pure Somali myrrh is highly concentrated and the fragrance is powerful. You can always add more, but it's harder to clear a room that has been over-burned.
Is the smoke safe to breathe? expand_more
Natural resin smoke is significantly cleaner than synthetic incense sticks which often contain chemical binders and artificial fragrance. However, we always recommend burning in a ventilated space — open a window slightly to allow airflow. Avoid direct prolonged inhalation of any smoke. If you have asthma or a respiratory condition, consult a doctor before use.
Can I mix myrrh and frankincense together? expand_more
Yes — and this is one of the most popular combinations in the Muslim world. Place a piece of myrrh alongside a pinch of frankincense powder on the same charcoal disc. The deep earthiness of myrrh and the bright citrus warmth of frankincense balance each other perfectly.

About Us
Are you a family business? expand_more
Yes — Myst & Myrrh is entirely family run. Our roots go back generations to Somali pastoralist communities where myrrh harvesting has been a way of life passed from parent to child. We started this business to share something genuinely pure and meaningful with people in the UK, while giving back to the communities and land that made it possible.
Do you give back to the community? expand_more
Yes — a percentage of every sale goes directly back into the Somali harvesting communities we work with. This funds local education, school resources, and the conservation of the ancient Commiphora groves. We believe in the full circle — from the land, back to the land.
Can I order wholesale or in bulk? expand_more
Yes — we welcome wholesale enquiries from wellness shops, gift shops, spas, boutiques and events. Please get in touch via our Contact page and select 'Wholesale Enquiry' — we will come back to you with pricing and availability.
